I’ve always found that I prefer to not make a WTB post anyway unless I have a very specific item in mind because I’ll always get those people who are like “I don’t have anything you’re asking for, but you should take a look at my sale anyway!” If I wanted to do that I would have just opened every sales post without reading the titles…

Inspired by this post.I always see things popping up like this. “I wish there were more things like this” “I wish other styles were more popular” “All I ever see is…”And it makes me think that people aren’t really looking at everything. They see some posts on tumblr that are probably OTT Sweet because that’s the most popular style right now and has been for some time but they fail to realize that just because it’s the most popular doesn’t mean they can’t wear other styles. Just because a lot of hair styles use curly hair doesn’t mean you have to. Just because a lot of Lolitas wear wigs doesn’t mean you have to. Just because a lot of Lolitas cover themselves in fuzzy stars and OTT sugary sweet cutsey pastel prints doesn’t mean you have to. Look around instead of just looking in one place. Maybe follow some new blogs. Do some extra research to find what you want rather than just wishing for it to magically appear. You may be pleasantly surprised by what you find.

Looking Your Best: Tips and Tricks for Tall and Curvy Girls

Scanned from Volume 4 (Winter 2009) of the English version of the Gothic & Lolita Bible

I was going through my old copies of the GLB and I came across this article that I had almost forgotten about. I thought it might be helpful to some of you so I thought I might scan and share it!

People have said that they miss them so I’m going to try working on more of my old tip posts. If nothing else I’ll at least try to get one a week.

It’s been a while since I’ve made one of these and I thought it was appropriate because I seem to find myself saying it a lot lately.

Submitted question #339: hairstyle question

Submitted question:

hi there :) i normally dont do this because i dont like letting my pictures out on the internet (just a bi paranoid haha) but im going to be getting a haircut here soon and i hate my bangs, so i was wondering if you could give me a suggestion based on the hair type i have now. im not a huge fan of stright cut bangs, so besides that, do you have any suggestions?

here is me with the way i usually wear my bangs (do not want)

so do you have any suggestions? preferably something that can help frame my face a bit better. thank you for your help and sorry if this was a bit “much” as far as a question goes.

thank you for all of your help

Response from Lolita Tips:

You’re so cute! And I agree that straight bangs might look a little off for you. I think to really frame your face you could really pull off something like this with thicker bangs that are pulled off to both sides:

It would be especially pretty if you curled it loosely like that too. You would also look really cute if you were to just grow your bangs out to the length of the rest of your hair and style them in, leaving it parted down the middle. Something like this:

I think both of these would look really cute on you, especially if you got layers to help make your hair look bouncy and flowy if you were to curl it.

Submitted question #336: Coord help?

Submitted question:

I’m a lolita as well as a cosplayer, and I’ve been wanting for ages to put together a coord based on the official art one of my favourite characters. I was fairly surprised at how her outfits often reflected lolita very accurately—I just need help with finding proper items similar to what she wears.

Examples of the girl’s outfits (specific character is the girl with long, brown hair and violet eyes, I tried to direct her placement in the specific pieces):

I fell in love with her outfits as soon as I saw these pieces of official art! It would be really wonderful if you could help me! Thank you very much, and my apologies if the pictures were unclear!

Response from Lolita Tips:

Oh, it’s Alice! (I love Pandora Hearts!) Yes, due to the period and the general nature of the anime it makes sense that some of the clothes she wears in art would be reminiscent of Lolita. However, I think that may actually be a problem. Usually when I put together coords based on what a character wears I’m basing it on something that isn’t Lolita at all. In this case, the outfits are very similar to Lolita in many ways, some (such as the picture of her in the tartan dress) are even at the point where you could actually say they are Lolita. This leads to the question, are you cosplaying the character, or are you wearing Lolita. Keep in mind that you should choose one of these and keep it at that. Don’t say you’re wearing a Lolita cosplay because that will send the wrong idea. You’re either wearing Lolita, or you’re cosplaying Alice. It seems to me though that you are just wearing Lolita.
So my question becomes this: What elements of each picture would you like to use? While they all have Lolita qualities, they are also all very different. I would say that the best I can do is recommend you Lolita shops that you can look through and decide for yourself, which is something that can be done in the FAQ. I’m sorry I’m sort of being redundant and not very helpful, but it’s hard to come up with something you’ll be happy with without knowing exactly what elements of her outfits you want to draw inspiration from. I think it’s better that you decide. Maybe then if you’re not sure you can come back to me with your ideas (links to items you might like to use and things like that) and I can give you feedback.

(I just realized that was pretty much a big redundant block of text but you know what, it’s 2am and I’m tired and I don’t feel like going and re-writing it. lol I’m sure you’ll get the point.)

A quick post about Bodyline’s measurements and item sizing

Because I keep getting questions about it I just wanted to show you all something! Here are two of Bodyline’s OPs.

1.

2.

Here are the size M measurements for dress 1.

“Length 90cm
Bust 82-102cm
Waist 66-86cm
Sleeve length 18cm”

Here are the measurements for size M for dress 2.

“Length 90cm
Bust 88cm
Waist 74cm
Shoulder length 34cm
Sleeve length 20cm”

As you can see, they are not the same. That is because the dresses are similar in style, but they have different construction that makes them sized differently. So why do they have the same letter size? Because it’s Bodyline and who really knows with them. It does make it easier though to order. Just go to the list of measurements for the specific item you want and choose the letter that matches up. Do this for EACH INDIVIDUAL ITEM to make sure you get it right. I have had cases where I got two skirts, one an M and one a 2L, both obviously the same measurements as they were both for me.

The moral of this story is do not overlook measurements! Do not go by what your dress size in a department store would be. Your measurements are very important.
