I tried searching through the tags and I don't think anyone has asked this before, so hopefully no one has. Anyways, I really like both gothic and sweet lolita styles, and I'd like to have my wardrobe have both in it, but it seems like most lolitas just stick to one style, so would it be strange or excessive to have two?

I have answered this before but I honestly can’t tell you what tag it would be under so it doesn’t seem fair for me to not answer it again. (It’s also 2:30am so I don’t feel like hunting it down.)
Most Lolitas actually don’t just stick to one style. While many do stick to just one, it’s just a matter of taste (and sometimes funds). Some Lolitas only wear one style because that’s the only style they really identify with. But for many Lolitas, myself included, one style just isn’t enough. I like a lot of things, I like a lot of colors and themes and looks and because of that I try to give myself different style options so I can dress to suit my mood. While it is recommended to stick to just one style when you’re first starting out so you can work on building a versatile and workable wardrobe, there is no reason you should have to only wear one style of Lolita forever.

Submitted question #696: My first coord

Submitted question:

http://www.polyvore.com/my_first_coord/set?id=80781966

Does this look ok as my first coord? I plan on using mainly white accessories and some gold. I’m not really sure about the blouse though, is it ok with the vest? The neckline is quite plain…

Response from Lolita Tips:

The blouse is the only thing I don’t like. I think the fact that it’s black chiffon is nice, but as you said, it’s very plain and the collar style isn’t great for Lolita. I would just suggest replacing the blouse with something better suited for Lolita, black works, but you could also do a white blouse to help balance the white that’s currently at the bottom of the coord.

oh my question might have gotten eaten too! I was wondering if you had any suggestions on a coord for Moi-Meme-Moitie's Archangel JSK? (that anon inspired me, I kind of want a flower crown now!)

A flower crown would work very well with Archangel. Overall there is really a lot you can do with it considering how simple it is. The overall design is very clean, the print is pretty simple, you could do something very basic like how Mana is wearing it here, or you could do something very elaborate with printed tights, pretty black lace gloves, you really have a lot of freedom to play around with it.

is it possible to make a gothic co ord with metas swan lake in black

Possibly but it would take a bit of creativity. The first thing I thought of would be to take inspiration from the ballet and try for an Odile theme so you can work off the theme of the print but also get that dark element. My first suggestion in any case would be to cover up the top part of the bodice because it looks very sweet so you could wear a nice black bolero. If you wanted to be really fancy and go with my Odile idea, you could do something with feathers, or even a combination of the two, a bolero to cover the bodice and something like this for added drama. You could then do some sort of Gothic styled crown for your headwear, maybe a crown of black roses (maybe one that includes feathers?) or a more literal crown. Then for your legwear you could do black lace tights and shoes that sort of have a ballet feel, possibly black rocking horse ballerinas or maybe just something with similarly styled ribbons/straps. Then you can add more Gothic elements to your accessories (purse, rings, earrings, maybe gloves). I’ve gone into a lot of detail with this one because I think it would be particularly difficult to get enough Gothic in there to drown out the Sweet.

Hello! I just had a quick question: is bodyline's l489 suitable for gothic or punk lolita or is it still sweet? and what kind of shoes or hair piece would you pair with it? Thank you in advance! P.S. I love your blog! ~Atsu

Almost definitely not Punk unless you were to do quite a bit of alterations, but in black it could work with Gothic. Maybe in red or blue as well but I think it would take a lot of creative coordinating because the overall style of the JSK is pretty Sweet.

Good afternoon~ I have a question about jewelry... I'm into gothic lolita, but would be ok wearing jewelry decorated with skulls? Or it's too much for lolita, thank you so much!

That’s definitely okay so long as the style of the jewelry fits the Lolita aesthetic. Skulls can definitely be pretty and elegant. For example, skull cameos work really well for Gothic Lolita.

for a gothic lolita makeup, can I wear dark red lip makeup?

As long as the color looks good on you and makes sense with the rest of your makeup it can work perfectly well.

Hello! I recently put together a few images of what I want my first coord to look like, and I just wanted your opinion on it:

Do you have any suggestions or anything?

Response from Lolita Tips:

I think it looks pretty much perfect as it is. I’m not quite sure where you’re putting the blue bow, but I honestly think it’ll work fine without it. That’s really the only part about the whole thing I don’t like though.
I would personally replace the laces in the shoes with pretty ribbons of some sort, I picture black ribbon with maybe a gold design on it, but that’s definitely optional as it looks fine as it is.
