Submitted question #793:

Submitted question:

I’m sorry this isn’t long, my asks seem to be getting eaten! How do I coord patterned blouses? I love love love them, but never seen anybody do it. Secondly, are legwarmers ok with lolita? I think high ones are super cute over OTK’s and under boots, or worn a little over the shoes, but I don’t know if that’s just something I should keep to my regular, day-to-day fashion. Thank you so much, happy Vet’s day!

Response from Lolita Tips:

How do you coord patterned blouses? Very carefully. I would avoid wearing them with a printed JSK or a skirt that has an all-over print. Of course it depends on the pattern on the blouse too. This is a pretty broad question so it’s hard for me to answer.
As for the legwarmers, I’m personally not a big fan of them period. I think if anything they can look pretty cute in Sweet Lolita that Fairy Kei elements in it because they’re so often seen in Fairy Kei, but they’re definitely not something I would suggest using all the time..

someone today asked me if my sweet lolita coord was fairy kei lolita. did i mess up so badly that it looked like a whole different lolita style or were they just confused? i've never heard of fairy kei lolita.

It’s possible that you might have messed up, but I think it’s more plausible that they got mixed up just because Fairy Kei and Sweet Lolita have a lot in common, particularly OTT Sweet which often uses a lot of Fairy Kei accessories and other elements. Fairy Kei Lolita isn’t a style of it’s own, but it’s very easy to put the two together which is where they probably got their assumption from.

If it helps, there are a few lolitas on the fairy forums too! It's pretty active over there and pretty much all street fashions are welcomed!~ (I would link but I'm using tumblr app ;; )

Even if bodyline's panniers aren't good for lolita, would you say that doubling some up could make some cute fairy kei outfits?

Bodyline’s colorful panniers make really good fairy kei skirts if you layer them over bloomers or thicker tights (because the tulle of the petticoat is see through). You really wouldn’t even have to double them if you’re just wearing them as a skirt.

Hi! I'm looking for my first skirt. I lean more towards Fairy Kei, but a lot of the time I feel like it gets fuzzed with Lolita. I need something 40$ and under. The colors I like are soft pinks, blues and browns. I like bows, but that's not necessary. Help me find please? :)

This is something that would work well with either Lolita or Fairy Kei depending on what you wear it with and it could be worn really casually or pretty OTT if you were so inclined. You could also do the same with a lot of Sweet prints like this one.

thoughts on maniaq ?

I think they have a lot of cute things, but they’re a Fairy Kei shop, not a Lolita shop. They do have things that will work for Sweet Lolita, but not everything.

What is the difference between fairy kei, sweet lolita, and decora? Thanks!!

They are all actually very different. Checking the Fairy Kei tag would tell you the difference between Fairy Kei and Sweet Lolita. Decora is another style (that actually isn’t all that popular anymore) that is completely separate. Decora is short for “decoration” which tells you that it’s focused on accessories things you can add to make the outfit more interesting. It’s very bold and loud and includes a lot of layering, especially of cute accessories.

I'm a sweet lolita who wants to dabble into fairy kei. Bodyline has some cute skirts that are too short for lolita but might work well for fairy kei, and maybe their petticoats? Recommendations on bodyline for fairy kei? Thanks in advance.

That is actually one of the very few things that Bodyline’s petticoats are good for. The colorful ones make great skirts for Fairy Kei. pan048, pan016, pan034, and a few others could make great Fairy Kei skirts, obviously if you wore them over something like leggings or opaque tights. On the note of skirts that are too short for Lolita, L404 would work well for Fairy Kei, and of course they have some wigs that would work very nicely too.
